April Semiconductor Sales

On Saturday we looked ahead to Intel's results in the current quarter, and we expressed a tentative belief that the company's Revenue would be higher in the second quarter than in the first.  We set a 5-percent target for Revenue growth.

On 1 June, the Semiconductor Industry Association issued a press release that, while far from proof, is consistent with our view.  The SIA reported that the April-ending, three-month moving average of worldwide semiconductor sales was 6.4 percent more than the moving average that ended in March.

The reported data address only one of the three months in the second quarter, and Intel's sales might differ materially from the industry average.  But, the report is encouraging nonetheless.

Full disclosure: Long INTC at time of writing.
